3 rules for lasting change in life!

At any given time, we represent the total sum of all of the choices we make in life!

If this means that life is tracking well for you, then pat yourself on the back and keep it up. If not, then it might be time for a change. A few simple questions can help kick start this change process.

– What is one area you’re tolerating in life right now, that is keeping you from being your best?

– What actions or in-actions are creating this tolerance?

– What are a few simple steps that you can you start today to take you down the road of success?

By answering these questions it is easy to work out what is holding you back, then, by following three simple rules, you can set in play, a state that will create profound change in your life.

1) Show up each day with the intention and awareness of being the person you want to be.

2) Day by day, fine-tune what you think, what you say, and what you do, to the point that you are forming the habits of the person you want to be.

3) Stop trying to convince others of your goals, and start convincing yourself! It’s easy to fool other people in to believing your story but you can never fool yourself.

Mahatma Gandhi says, “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are all in harmony” and this is definitely the case when it comes to creating health and happiness in life.

Pretending to be the person you want to be, but tolerating behaviour (yours or others) not congruent with your goal, will have devastating consequences.

Evaluate your life up until now. Look at your decisions and your choices, then do something each day that signals to yourself, you mean business and the time for change is now!

Digestion

Five things you must know to optimise your digestion

leakygut-fb

Our digestive system is uniquely designed to turn the food we eat into the energy we need to thrive. When this system breaks down, poor digestion can cause a myriad of problems from gas, bloating, muscle / joint pain, headaches and reflux, right through to inflammation and disease.

WHAT CAN CAUSE POOR DIGESTION?

There are many factors that influence digestion, including;

Dehydration. A dry mouth is the first sign of dehydration, affecting salivation and therefore digestion due to the digestive enzymes in saliva.

Toxic Bowels. This is commonly caused by processed food, trans fats, chlorinated water (kills the guts natural flora), and over consumption of caffeine.

Stress. Stress diverts blood from our digestive system to our muscles (impairing digestion and reducing nutrient uptake) and can cause our colon to react in a way that gives us either diarrhea or constipation, impairing the uptake of nutrients.

SO HOW CAN YOU IMPROVE YOUR DIGESTION??

Chew it up!

One of the best ways to help your digestive system is to ensure you chew your food. Digestion starts in your mouth, so take smaller bites, ensure you chew your food into small pieces, and swallow when you have achieved a fluid like consistency. It is easier for your body to absorb the key nutrients when you follow this process.

Hydrate

Water encourages the regular passage of waste through your digestive system and creates the foundation for the hydrochloric acid that breaks it down.  Insufficient intake of water can also cause constipation, which may assist in the promotion of inflammation and disease. 1 litre of filtered water for every 30 kg of body weight, is a good guideline for water consumption.

Eat clean, fresh, natural food

Processed foods are much harder for the digestive system to break down and trans fats in particular can cause large-scale inflammation. If you are not sure what will work for you, try eliminating foods that irritate you for one month and then slowly reintroduce them one at a time, to discover food sensitivities.  The most common food allergens include corn, soy, gluten, dairy, eggs, alcohol, sugar and (in most cases) all grains.

Add some probiotics

Probiotics are known as friendly bacteria and  are great way to help your digestive system. These bacteria also form the foundation of your immune system, so you feel more energy and vitality each day.  Probiotics can be found in many types of quality yoghurt and cultured vegetables, as well as in high quality supplements.

Reduce stress

Sleep 101: 5 simple tips for a great night’s sleep

With our lives becoming busier and busier, sleep can often be the first thing we sacrifice for things that seem “higher priority” in life. Fatigue, poor concentration, stress and low energy levels, are just a few signs that our priorities around sleep may need reassessing.

Quality sleep not only enhances the immune system but repairs the body and renews our energy. In short, sleep helps us recover from the demands of our busy lives and reset the body and mind for tomorrow. The key to sleep is to understand the hormones that control it and the routine required to maximise it. When you do this, you’ll be back to peak performance in no time.

THE HORMONES:

Cortisol – released in response to both daylight and physical activity and designed to keep you awake and alert.

Melatonin – released in response to darkness and designed to help you sleep and repair your body. [Read more…]
